Hi, this is Dr. Francis Malone, founder of the intuitive parents
Speaker:collective. I've been working with children and their families
Speaker:to provide holistic relationship based medical care throughout my
Speaker:career. This podcast is for parents interested in
Speaker:consciously raising naturally Healthy Kids. Here, we will dive
Speaker:into topics that spanned childhood, and parenting as well
Speaker:as hosting exciting guests. So whenever you find yourself at
Speaker:the end of her parenting rope, tune into the intuitive parents
Speaker:podcast to get new ideas about making parenting fun.
Speaker:thrilled to be here and to be beginning conversations about
Speaker:who I am and what I have to bring to this community. I have
Speaker:had a long history, and that just happens when you get kind
Speaker:of long in the tooth, I guess. I grew up in a household where my
Speaker:parents did not rely on medications too much as a
Speaker:background to mostly just healthy foods and lots of
Speaker:outside time. And But then, when I hit my college years, I
Speaker:actually was dramatically ill in a number of different ways, and
Speaker:interfaced with Western medicine, in in life saving ways
Speaker:at the time, and that were positive. And then also in
Speaker:negative ways where my chronic epstein barr, or chronic mano
Speaker:was minimized for a year. And I was told that it was all in my
Speaker:head, which is really difficult to hear when you are a type a
Speaker:student who is pushing themselves in academics and
Speaker:failing, when you've never had that experience before. So I
Speaker:would say that, having had those flip side experiences of Western
Speaker:medicine, and then my own, I was already in the biology, pre med
Speaker:track at the time and my own love of the human body nature,
Speaker:how the world works, just got fueled by needing to understand
Speaker:a little bit more. That whole system. And so I went to school,
Speaker:I actually had a biology degree and a minor in neuroscience, and
Speaker:then a nursing degree, a BSN, and a master's in nursing, which
Speaker:is as a nurse, pediatric nurse practitioner from University of
Speaker:Penn. So I have a really solid, great education. And then I was
Speaker:afforded the luxury of attending the University of Washington,
Speaker:which is the premier nursing research school in the country
Speaker:for bio behavioral nursing. And there I got all of the ideas and
Speaker:structures and the previous theoretical stuff sort of opened
Speaker:up and splayed for you like PhD programs are intended to do and
Speaker:then reformulated right. And University of Washington has an
Speaker:incredible strength of creating research driven nurses. And so I
Speaker:graduated from there and worked at Seattle Children's in the
Speaker:solid organ transplant program, developing the intestinal
Speaker:failure program with my colleague, Simon horseman and
Speaker:hurry, right. So that was incredible opportunities to
Speaker:really stretch myself in research and research projects
Speaker:in both of those places in the University of Washington and
Speaker:then Seattle Children's. And also to work utilizing the
Speaker:premium way that you would need to use Western medicine which is
Speaker:an organ transplant, because there really isn't another
Speaker:opportunity for many of us children, other than moving
Speaker:forward with new technology in medicine. But the way I raised
Speaker:my own three children during that time, so I have three boys
Speaker:and a steps on. The way I raised them was with a foundation of
Speaker:nutrition and Outdoor time and respect and giving them freedom
Speaker:and autonomy as much as i was able at their different ages.
Speaker:And that experience really honed for me some of the places where
Speaker:I have a natural trust or trust in the natural therapeutics,
Speaker:because I was able to use those for my own kids, and my circle
Speaker:of friends, children, and to see how well supported a child can
Speaker:be without really leaning too heavily on
Speaker:pharmaceuticals. And then I started my own pediatric
Speaker:practice in 2016, on Bainbridge Island. And that has been
Speaker:probably another of the harder things I've done in my life
Speaker:because I really had to dig deep within myself to acknowledge
Speaker:that I had the skills and I have the ability to figure out how to
Speaker:create a practice on my own and to be a solo practitioner when
Speaker:that type of practice is slowly dying away. And then I've had
Speaker:the joy of caring for, you know, hundreds of other people's
Speaker:children who bring light and brightness to my days on an
Speaker:hourly basis. So that's how we got to where we are right now.
